The New Testament says:

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made of things that are visible.' -Hebrews 11:1ff

Jesus 'was God'

'In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.' -John 1:1ff

hearts, streams, biblical messages ...'

Avalon -- A Great Escape

Need an escape from this summer's heat wave?

The Catalina Express ferry transports vacationers from Long Beach to the City of Avalon on

Santa Catalina Island in about an hour to a cool retreat

away from the California mainland.

Relatively crime free, Avalon offers great restaurants, lodging and family outdoor activities

such as snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking and ziplining.

The island's iconic Catalina Casino ('gathering place') built in 1929 was never intended --

or used -- for gambling.  Instead, the Casino, built by William Wrigley Jr.,

houses Avalon Theater, the first movie theater designed for 'talkies'

and renowned for it's state-of-the-art acoustics. On the Casino's upper level

is the restored world's largest ballroom -- the Casino Ballroom --

a Hollywood Golden Era getaway that showcased Big Band-era performances

by Benny Goodman, Stan Kenton and Woody Herman.

In Memoriam

Remembering the 21 Christian martyrs

of February 15, 2015

.

'Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus

and for the word of God,

and those who had not worshipped the beast

or its image and had not received its mark

on their foreheads or their hands.

They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.'

-Revelation 20:4-5

.

'In 2015 21 Coptic Christians were beheaded by ISIS on a beach in Libya. ISIS released a video of the beheadings that was intended to terrorise Christians in the Middle East. Yet this very video is watched repeatedly by the families of the martyrs: they are inspired by the calmness and courage of their men. Why are Coptic Christians encouraged rather than terrorised by the video?

Martin Mosebach, an award-winning journalist, travelled to the village that was home to 16 of the martyrs, to interview their families, church leaders and others. His inspiring investigation describes the primitive faith of Egyptian Christians, who have been using the same creed and liturgy since AD42, and how they live in the face of persecution in a Muslim-majority country.'

But it is not possible ... the quietness and rest for which I long would be an escape from reality and dangerous for my soul ... the West sleeps and must be awakened to see the plight of the captive nations.'
